After five years living in Prague, I built a list and a map of my favorite places to dine and drink. You can see all of them on this google maps, and some of them are described below with short descriptions. I believe it's quite up-to-date, but forgive me if something is no longer accurate.

I have been to all of these places (some of them many times), and I'm confident they are quite good. However, it's always a matter of taste, so our views might not always match, and that's okay :)

  • Oak - One of my go-to brunch places. Full English breakfast is my favorite. Service is amazing, with an owner/manager providing you a food description as in a high-end dining restaurant. Also, good sparkling for your Mimosa. Can be busy over the weekend.

Sodo - Small, cute, no reservations accepted, not very central, but in a nice area to walk after breakfast. Famous for Buchtičky se šodo - a traditional Czech homemade dessert.

Vila 63 - Very cute cafe in an old Prague villa. Reservations are available (and advised).

Cafe Neustadt - A little hidden in the courtyard, nice place for a quick coffee or drink during the day. A bit of a hipster vibe.

Coffeespot - Cute café with great coffee (rather a window with a couple of benches), next to my home, if you are around.

Ema Espresso Bar - Famous espresso bar, next to Masaryčka, a building by Zaha Hadid.

  • Easy

Hillbilly - Good burgers, one of my favorites.

Big Smokers - Canteen-style American ribs.

Stejkárna Vinohrady - Nice steakhouse, they also have another branch.

The Italians - Relaxed ambiance and good-quality pizza and pasta. A little bit outside of the city center, yet not too far. Also has a good store with fresh Italian specialties.

Pasta Fresca - Very centrally located homemade pasta restaurant, one of the best in town, but not the cheapest.

FatFuck - Good burgers, famous for their buns.

    Something Special & Different

U Lasíků - Cute café on the outskirts of Prague (actually, it's not Prague anymore), famous for their pies. Good for a long walk or a bike trip.

Matzip - Korean cuisine in Prague's downtown.

Brambory - Menu focused on potatoes, a little bit out of the center.

Lehká Hlava - Vegetarian, which surprised me with its quality and variety.

Výčep - Michelin recommended, Czech classic cuisine with a modern twist.

The Boršč - Ukrainian bistro, nice homemade food.

Uzbegim Orientální Restaurace - Uzbek and Central Asian bistro. Quick and delicious lunch. Go for manty and plov.

Bon Fresh Ramen & Soba - One of my favorite ramen spots. They have other branches too.

Chilli & Lime - One of the best Asian cafés. Go for laksa, duck curry, or pad thai.

Jam and Co. - Asian fusion café AND a must-try - Kimchi Bloody Mary.

Café Louvre - Iconic 100-year-old restaurant and café. Good quality food, ambiance, and interior. I would not expect the best service.

Café Savoy - Another iconic café, with a beautiful interior from the first republic times. Good for brunch or coffee. Crowded and expensive.

U Kalendů - My go-to place for Czech food. Refined, good quality, well-located. Sometimes the menu features very cool things, like fried carp or cheese foam from Olomouc.

U Kroka - Another Czech classic cuisine spot. Go there for pork neck (vepřové koleno) or dill soup (kulajda).

Rangoli - My favorite Indian restaurant. Haven't failed for many years. They have other locations in town too.

    High-End

Field Restaurant - Michelin-starred, high level of quality. Lunch can be a good cost-saving alternative.

Salabka - Michelin recommended, high-dining, requires an Uber ride, set-menu.

Kampa Park - Michelin recommended, sitting above the river, amazing views.

The Eatery - Michelin Bib Gourmand, my favorite place for Czech high cuisine. Opt-in for Czech wine (white and from Moravia).

Eska and Štangl - Michelin Bib Gourmand, great spot to experience Czech high-dining (Štangl) or a quick bite (Eska).

420 - New to the Prague scene, located on the old square, beautiful interior, modern twist on traditional Czech cuisine.

Alma - Another new addition to the modern restaurant scene in Prague. Vibrant menu of international and Czech refined food. Nice bar and cocktails too. Beautiful interior design.

  • Bukowski's Bar - Easy-going and friendly bar in Žižkov. Might be cash only.

Pivo a párek - Chain of beer-bars, with a concept of beer and sausage on the menu. Might be cash only.

Dejvická Nádražka - One of the cheapest beers in central Prague. Old train station transformed into a beer bar. You can sit almost at the railroad.

The Banker's Bar - Cozy, rather expensive bar, not too loud, so good for a conversation. The big portrait on one of the walls is said to be of the first president of Czechoslovakia's National Bank (unverified).

Café V lese - Iconic and a little trashy. They also host concerts downstairs. Usually a very young crowd. Go there for shots after cocktails night in Vršovice.

Café Bar Pilotů - Beautiful interior and nice cocktails menu. My favorite is Vietnamská večerka - everything you can buy from a night shop.

Jam and Co. - Asian fusion café AND a must-try - Kimchi Bloody Mary.

Boudoir - U Sta rán - A little bit queer (check the arts on the walls) and a laid-back bar. They have a garden behind, but sitting at the bar or upstairs is fun.

Hemingway - High-end cocktail bar. Expensive. Reservation required.

Bokovka - Very nice ambiance and a great place to try a careful selection of Czech and international wines by the glass.

Champagneria - Relaxed and easy-going bar for everything sparkling. Try one of the Czech sparklings (Gala is my favorite).
